
Dr. Andrew Warkentin
Dr. Andrew Warkentin, DVM earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film from the University of Colorado in 2016 before completing his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine through the combined University of Alaska Fairbanks and Colorado State University Veterinary program in 2026.
Before becoming a veterinarian, Dr. Drew spent more than a decade in human emergency medicine, serving as a Vail Ski Patroller, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), and member of the Colorado Avalanche Rescue Deployment team. Those experiences cultivated a calm, team-oriented approach to emergency care that continues to shape his practice today.
While attending Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, he received the prestigious Gentle Doctor Award, an honor presented to only two graduating students at each veterinary school nationwide who exemplify exceptional compassion, professionalism, and dedication to the veterinary profession. He was recognized with the Star Performance Award for consistently exceeding expectations in patient and client care and was chosen by his peers to serve as the DVM Class of 2026 commencement speaker.
Dr. Drew has special interests in emergency and critical care, surgery, orthopedics, sports medicine, and working dogs. He provides compassionate, evidence-based care and believes building strong relationships with clients is just as important as delivering exceptional medical care. He strives to partner with families to help their pets live long, healthy lives.
Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Drew enjoys spending time with his wife, their two sons, and their German Shorthaired Pointer, Tulo. He enjoys mountain biking, ski mountaineering, fly fishing, camping & exploring the outdoors with his family. Dr. Warkentin feels most at home in the mountains and is grateful to be a part of the Sun Valley Community.
