In our last blog post, we touched on a few of the reasons that we absolutely believe that dogs benefit from their time at doggy daycare. While we were able to cover five fantastic reasons, those are far from being the only ways that your pup will benefit from doggy daycare.
In today’s blog, we will cover five additional reasons that you should consider signing your four-legged friend up for the doggy daycare program here at Sun Valley Veterinary. And, if you haven’t already, make sure to check out our last blog post where the first five benefits are covered.
A benefit that most people don’t think of in regards to doggy daycare is additional training. While the care facility is by no means a training center, this is a great place to get some additional learning time for your pup. Whether they’re relatively well trained or they need some work with people, the more time that they spend listening to commands and working with the staff at a doggy daycare center, the more likely they are to pick up on commands.
This is definitely not something that you can say they’re getting by staying home while you’re at work or running errands.
If you are currently leaving your dog at home for a work day, you’ve likely thought to yourself (on more occasion than once) about how your dog likely needs to relieve themselves. While cleaning up accidents after work is something that not all people mind, it’s not necessarily the mess that owners have a problem with. For a majority of pet owners, knowing that their dog is at home trying to hold it can be difficult. Aside from that, it makes potty training all the more challenging.
Rather than force your dog to hold it while you’re at work, know that they are getting all of the potty breaks that they need while they’re at doggy daycare.
Burn Some Energy
In our last blog, we touched on the fact that doggy daycare is a great way to provide your dog with an opportunity to exercise. That being said, exercise is only one of the ways that physical activity can benefit a dog. Pent up energy is something that all dog-owners with working dogs or puppies can understand. Rather than spend a full day at the office only to head home to a dog with endless energy, drop your pup off at doggy daycare and let them come home equally as tired as you.
Less Chance of Separation Anxiety
Whether you have a dog that suffers from separation anxiety or you know someone that does, you understand just how difficult this can make simple things like heading to the store or visiting with friends outdoors. When your dog gets accustomed to you being home all of the time, it makes it extremely difficult for them to cope without you at home. More often than not, this separation anxiety can lead to destructive behavior.
The best way to reduce the chances of separation anxiety developing in your pet is to make it part of their routine. While you can make leaving for work a part of their daily routine, this is often when the destruction comes in. Rather than let your house become a playground for your pet, let them get their mind off you being gone while they’re at doggy daycare.
Peace of Mind
It may not be much, but the peace of mind that you get when your dog is at doggy daycare is something priceless. Whether you’re worried about how your dog is handling you being at work or you’re concerned with the condition of your carpet, dropping your dog off at doggy daycare can provide you with a peace of mind that you otherwise wouldn’t have. When you consider the last nine benefits that we’ve listed, this is really just the cherry on top.
