Randall Acker, DVM

| A graduate of Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Randy Acker has been the owner and medical director of Sun Valley Animal Center since 1982.
Dr. Acker's special interest is medical and surgical care for the sporting and outdoor dog. This special interest has become an essential part of his practice over the past 10 years, his orthopedic skills have made SVAC a national referral center for several orthopedic surgical procedures. He is the only veterinary surgeon in Idaho that performs canine total hip replacement. He is also a Pfizer Animal Health Lecturer on pain management.
Dr. Acker was an invited speaker at the AVMA Summer 2000 Meeting, speaking on "Current Issues in Small Animal Orthopedics." Dr. Acker has also produced a video - "Advanced Canine First Aid for Sporting Dogs." He worked as the veterinary consultant for the Emmy award winning film, "Wolf - Return of a Legend," and was the official veterinarian at the 1995 National Amateur Field Trials. In 1999, Dr. Acker received the 1999 "Honoree of the Year" award from Canine Companions for Independence.
Dr. Acker is affiliated with several local and national veterinary associations. These include the American Veterinary Medical Association, American Animal Hospital Association, Veterinary Orthopedic Society, and the Idaho Veterinary Medical Association.
Outside of the hospital, Dr. Acker, his wife Sue, and their three children (Amber, Maggie and Marcus) enjoy the many outdoor recreational opportunities that the Sun Valley area offers.
Furry members of the Acker family include orphaned kittens Chuck and Tess, Tate (hospital celebrity), the yellow lab who has modeled for many national publications, and steals the show as a model for Dr. Acker's' dog first aid courses and accompanying instructional video. | |

Scott Acker, DVM
|
| Dr. Scott Acker received a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1985 and his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 1990 from Colorado State University. Following graduation he was accepted by the West Los Angeles Veterinary Medical Group for a one-year intemship in small animal medicine and surgery. The next two years were spent in private practice in Santa Barbara, CA.
Dr. Acker came to Sun Valley in 1993 and is happy to call this area home. Special interests include soft tissue and orthopedic surgery as well as ultrasound.
Outside the hospital Dr. Acker enjoys trail running, mountain hiking and skiing. | |
