Rachel Schochet, DVM
Dr. Rachel Schochet, board certified veterinary radiologist brings more than sixteen years of experience in the veterinary profession to pets and their families in the Wood River Valley.
Dr. Schochet grew up in New York but says one of her favorite memories are the summers she and her brother spent in Idaho. As both of her parents worked in education, their professional schedules enabled the family to travel to the Gem state for summers filled with camping, hiking, backpacking, and exploring Idaho. In addition, as a teenager, she participated in the ice skating programs offered in Sun Valley and she is an accomplished snow skier— she was on the United States ski team 1988-1991, moguls. She tells us that part of the appeal of moving to Idaho was to be near her parents who have since moved to the Wood River Valley permanently.
Dr. Schochet completed her undergraduate work at the University of Utah, graduating with a BA in psychology. She earned her DVM at Colorado State University (CSU) College of Veterinary Medicine in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Dr. Schochet began her career with a one-year internship at Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital in Denver, followed by a three-year radiology residency at the CSU. She was honored with a National Institute of Health (NIH) grant for oncology. This enabled her to work for the oncology department at CSU.
Dr. Schochet has a natural enthusiasm for veterinary medicine. “I love all things cats and dogs. I like to kiss all my patients, and make their imaging experience as comfortable and enjoyable as possible,” she said. “I will often let clients be with their animals when I ultrasound them, and try to make their experience as pleasant as possible.”
She also feels that the most important part of her job is to ensure her patients receive the highest level of care while also maintaining a superior level of communication with referring veterinarians and owners.
Dr. Schochet is married to an artisan bread baker. Her spouse, Roman, is a native Southern Californian, relocating to Idaho with her, where he will be launching a bakery career full time.
Their home is completed with 5 cats—all rescues from the many years where she served with cat rescue nonprofits—and one Goldendoodle, “Charlie.”
